About Recreation

The recreation soccer program is a part of the City of Florence Parks and Recreation department and is governed by the rules, policies, and procedures of the City of Florence. This recreational soccer program provides the best learning environment for your kids to enjoy the game of soccer without the cost and commitment of travel programs offered to members of the Florence Soccer Association.

There are two seasons each year that offer league play, fall and spring.  The fall league is open for youth ranging from 4 to 17 years of age.  The spring season is open for ages 4 to 12 years of age. All ages are determined as of September of the current registration year. Practices are held during the evening on weeknights, and matches played on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays at the Florence Soccer Complex. Because recreation soccer is an important part of soccer in this area, Florence Soccer Association collaborates with the city by providing volunteer support, equipment, and assists in providing each player a jersey and socks as part of the registration fees.

The City’s program follows SCAP guidelines for play and uses the small sided game format to ensure that kids get more touches on the ball. There is no pressure to score goals or to win games, but rather an emphasis on having fun while at the same time instilling a love and respect for the game. The goal is to provide your child with the opportunity to reach his or her potential (and to develop a healthy, active lifestyle) while at the same time teaching them teamwork, responsibility and commitment.  A summary of the recreation program's rules and regulations can be found here.

The Recreation Program is always in need of volunteer coaches.  No experience is required.  Coaches will be provided with equipment, training plans, and support.  Please consider supporting this program!
